We had a wonderful knitting class retreat this past weekend. There were a total of six women. The youngest two, young mothers in their 20's,wanted to learn to knit. Well, as you know, any knitter loves to teach the craft to any willing listener. We spent Saturday morning teaching casting-on and the knitting stitch. The young ladies were fast learners so we were able to go shopping in the adjacent town to get some knitting projects going! Their mother was also with us, and she is a good beginning knitter, so she was able to get started on two projects. All three of them chose to do double point and/or circular needle projects. We were impressed with their great attitudes! After our shopping excursion, we spent a leisurly afternoon of chatting and knitting, picking up stitches, counting, wondering what happened to a stitch- all the things we knitters do from time to time -- such an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday. We will be having another knitting weekend Feb.29-Mar 2 to learn to knit felted slippers. If you are interested, contact me via my blog. May 16 will be a special weekend featuring Arnhilde. She will bring her Rauma yarn store with her (shop at Medayto Rose Cottage) and we will be learning both Norwegian sweater knitting and/or Norwegian hat/mittens. Arnhilde is from Ames, Iowa but is originally from Norway. She holds knitting retreats throughout the year and is also the Rauma yarn distributor. This will be a very special weekend to have such a premier teacher at the cottage. Again, contact me via the blog if you have an interest.
